Contrast Advisory

Have us look at your plan before it is too late to change.

Send us your drawings. In one session we tell you what works, what doesn’t, what is missing, and what to change before rough-in. Independent advice — we don’t sell fixtures.

For homeowners building or renovating, with a builder or as an owner builder. Architects and designers are welcome to bring a client’s plan.

How it works

  1. 01

    Send your plans

The electrical plan, the floor plan with furniture drawn on, and any renders, joinery drawings or photographs you have. PDF is fine.

  2. 02

    We read them first

Before we meet, we go through every room and mark up the plan, so the session is spent on decisions, not orientation.

  3. 03

    One session, sixty minutes

Online, or at the studio in Little Collins Street. Bring whoever is making the decisions with you.

  4. 04

A marked-up plan and a list of changes

Within two business days, written so you can hand it to your builder or electrician as it is.

The fee

AUD $550.

Paid when you book, GST included. If you bought The Home Lighting Planner, the $49 comes off. If we go on to design the lighting for your whole home, the session is part of that work, not an extra.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to have an electrical plan already?

It helps, but a floor plan with the furniture drawn on is enough to start. If the electrical plan exists, send it too: that is where most of the changes will be.

What should I send you?

The electrical plan, the floor plan with furniture, and anything that shows the finishes: renders, joinery drawings, photographs of similar rooms you like. PDF is fine. Send them by reply to our email once your session is confirmed.

How long does it take?

We read your plans before we meet. The session itself is sixty minutes, online or at the studio. You have the marked-up plan and the written list of changes within two business days.

What do I walk away with?

A marked-up plan and a list of changes written so you can hand it straight to your builder or electrician: positions, switching groups, fixture types and the numbers behind them.

Will you tell me which fixtures to buy?

We will tell you what each position needs — beam, colour temperature, CRI, dimming — and name products where it helps. We don't sell fixtures and we take no commission, so the advice is only about what suits your home.

Is it too late once rough-in has started?

Not always. Positions are hard to move once the plaster is on, but switching, dimming, fixture choice and aiming can still change. Tell us where you are up to and we will say honestly what is still worth doing.

What does it cost, and how does the Planner credit work?

AUD $550, paid when you book, GST included. If you bought The Home Lighting Planner, request the session with the same email and we take the $49 off; the code LG49 on your receipt does the same if you book another way.

What if I need more than one session?

Then you probably want a Lighting Plan: a full layout, switching and fixture schedule for your builder to price. The Advisory fee comes off it. We'll say so in the session if that is where your project is heading.
